MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY


Today it is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,  a federal holiday in the United States honouring the achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr. - the most important spokesman for non-violent activism in the civil rights movement to end racial segregation. It is celebrated on the third Monday of January each year, which is close to 15 January, his birthday. Continue reading here.









Now watch the official trailer of the movie “Selma”  which has just been released in the United States. It is the story of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic struggle to secure voting rights for all people – a dangerous and terrifying campaign which culminated with the epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement.
