A SUITABLE BOY

BBC One's A Suitable Boy, based on Vikram Seth's bestseller, explores post-partition India's cultural norms as well as combining satire with romance.
When writing it, former Oxford English Literature student Seth was inspired by Jane Austen, particularly Elizabeth Bennet, and he portrayed similar qualities in Lata: charm, quick wit and independence (not to mention their overbearing mothers).
Here you can read the novel online.

"An immensely enjoyable novel which describes with unhurried pace the panorama of India ... Everything appears familiar to us, yet in fact it is newly minted by a master artist."

Jane Austen's final, unfinished novel Sanditon has been adapted for the small screen recently. Written just months before the author died in 1817, the story centres around Charlotte Heywood, her unexpected trip to a posh coastal resort town, and her relationship with a gorgeous young man named Sidney Parker. Jane Austen only finished eleven chapters of the story, but her original text has been extended into an eight-part miniseries.
Even if it isn't as impeccable as “Pride and Prejudice” or “Persuasion” miniseries or movies, I love “Sanditon”!

Game of Thrones is an HBO series that tells the story of a medieval country's civil war. The series, which premiered in April 2011, is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos in a world where seasons stretch on for years. When the story begins, a decade-long summer is ending, and winter looms as characters battle to claim the "Iron Throne," the seat of the king of the Seven Kingdoms, the regime that rules all but the northern tip of Westeros. In show parlance, "sit on the Iron Throne" is a metonym equivalent to "rule Westeros." Read more here.

POLDARK

Poldark is a BBC television series based on the novels written by Winston Graham which was first transmitted in the UK between 1975 and 1977. It is one of the most successful British television adaptations of all time.
The romantic saga follows Ross Poldark  (Robin Ellis) as he loses his fiancĂ©e, the beautiful and well-mannered Elizabeth, to his cousin Francis. Ross ends up marrying his servant Demelza, but he is always torn between the two women from very different social backgrounds.  Set in late 18th century Cornwall, the plot follows Ross  Poldark's attempts to make his ruined tin mines a success. Life is tough, smuggling is rife and Ross Poldark finds himself taking the side of the underprivileged against the merciless behaviour of his enemies, the greedy Warleggan clan. Although the emphasis is primarily  on Ross and Demelza, there are many other characters with their own stories.
In February 2014, the BBC announced a new adaptation of the series, Poldark, due for broadcast this year and  starring  Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark.

Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson
